The NZ Provincial Barbarians haven't bothered naming their side yet, while the decide whether it's worth playing with 15 or if 10 will be enough.

On a serious note, that's a good Lions side.

...and the other thing that kills me is kicking away turnover ball. NH sides do this all the time. You virtually never see SH sides do it.

Re: The Lions vs NZ Provincial BaaBaas
Box kicking poorly is one of the most futile things in rugby. It amazes me how many sides do it, and how often.

On the other hand, any side is going to need to do it at times. Fine, but surely a competent scrum half should be able to get the height and distance to allow a proper chase ? Apparently not.

Yeah sorry about the space there Mart…. It’s also the official marching song of the US 7th Cavalry IIRC??

Oh and agree about Murray’s kicking… BUT… I’d still say the Kiwi’s are not the team to try that tactic to…

It's Garryowen, Sold0. Named after the club where the tactic originated. Not some Welsh cunt with too many 'r's in his name.

Sexton's kick might have lost the game, but Webb's endless aimless box kicks were far worse. He just kept kicking it away with no chance of getting it back whatsoever. Mindless. The god news is Connor Murray is probably the best kicking scrum half in world rugby.

I have no problem with tactical kicking.... shove them back in their own 22... Rob Andrew was a master of that.... but all these aimless Garry Owen's?? Give it a rest... the Kiwi's love all that shit....

There certainly will be if they don't stop kicking the fucking ball away.

I guess never say never, but we do have an absolute shitload of talented outside backs who are younger than him, so it will take some special performances from him.

Do you reckon he has a chance at getting back to the top level?

Reminds me a little bit of Cipriani. Only a little bit, mind.

Re: The Lions vs NZ Provincial BaaBaas
Yeah he has. Been a real shame how it's all played out.

My favourite pissed-up Zac story is when he stumbled naked, drunk and bleeding into a beach bar in Rarotonga and assaulted two people.

Real shame how he's gone from having the rugby world at his feet to rock bottom, but hopefully he's in a good space now. Having a real job and real responsibilities is probably the best thing for him.

Romance never dies Lard... in the words of Oddball (Kelly's Heroes)... Have a little faith baby...

Jonah... whilst just having a shit at work I was reading on the BBC an article about Zac Guildford... some proper demons that kid has had over the years... good to see he's trying to sort himself out...

Re: The Lions vs NZ Provincial BaaBaas
Northern, unfortunately mate romance is the only notion that holds the Lions thing together.

I remember the 71 tour listening to the wireless with Tipper and Buffers at boarding school in Kent. It was like receiving a weekly war report from the front as the British Lions ran amok over Kiwishire winning 23 , losing 1 (and a draw)

A sweet but distant memory the like of which we will never see again

Re: The Lions vs NZ Provincial BaaBaas
If you couldn't beat Australia 4 years ago they should have cancelled the tours forever.

Don't get me wrong, I love having the Lions down here, because it's the last real tour in rugby, but the British clubs need to be pulled into line if you ever want to see a proper tour.

Every 4 years the season can be 2 games shorter and the players can have a proper preparation.

They truncate the Four Nations down here in World Cup years, and we all survive.

Ilford.... Ha Ha... just a bit... I think both teams had to make about 9 changes each for that last test... absolute war

Ilford Hammer 12:12 Thu Jun 8
Re: The Lions vs NZ Provincial BaaBaas
Yep. Watched the 2nd test again a week ago and was still shouting at the TV when he gave away that penalty.

That was still the most brutal games of rugby I've ever seen though. Some of the hits and injuries were vicious.

Ilford… spot on … if it was not for that plank O’Gara we would have a share of the spoils in ’09… no way should we have lost that series

Re: The Lions vs NZ Provincial BaaBaas
Yes Jonah it’s almost an impossible task and it’s being made harder by the Home Unions red tape… but that’s not the point of it is it?? Come on you just had your record crowd the other night… you telling me people on the Islands are not excited at the tour?? All I keep hearing is that the sides the Lions are playing against the it’s the games of their lifetimes for the players involved?? Yes we know it’s an amateur set up in a professional age…. But you know what… for any Rugby romantic… so fucking what… I think it’s great and the ethos and the Tours will be still going a long time after both you and me are dug in the ground.
